Turn Time” is commonplace within charterparties to provide for there to be a delay before laytime commences, either from when the vessel is actually ready to load or discharge having reached the specified destination or from when the Notice of Readiness (NOR) is tendered.

This grace period is to allow the charterer time to prepare for the loading or discharging operations, for example, opening hatches, preparing load or discharging equipment etc. “Turn Time” may either be a straight period of time commonly 12 hours each port for dry cargo charters or be fixed by reference to a point in time or to an external event such as when the vessel is “All Fast Register or Login.
